UP Train ZYCMQB 20 is blasting south at Bernie with the 2nd UP 7511 leading. The 1st UP 7511, builder's number 50945 was built in July 1998 and suffered fire damage on June 7, 1999. The cause of the fire was determined to be warranty related. Thus, the unit was retired on June 16, 1999 and shipped to GE at Erie, Pa., on June, 17 1999. The damage was repaired and the unit was repainted to GE's Red and Gray Scheme and was renumbered to GECX 6002 in April 2000. This is the 2nd 7511, bulider's number 52484 that was built to replace it in December 2000 and was delivered on January 7, 2001 with a builder's number of 52484. |

This old girl began her career as CGW 403 46 years ago this month as a SD40. After what turned out to be a stint on the CGW, it was onto green and yellow paint as CNW 923, later passing to NREX 923, MKCX 9401, and then SP 8626 on February 24, 1995 at MK's Mountaintop, PA shop, after being rebuilt to Dash-2 specifications. The new unit, now designated as a SD40M-2 was renumbered to UP 2702 on July 27, 2000. The renumbering was done after a wreck at Lufkin, TX on June 21, 2000, and the unit received its peculiar gray patches as part of the repairs, but was obviously never fully repainted. It was retired by UP and sold to RailAmerica in May 2012, and assigned to the Missouri & Northern Arkansas as MNA 2702. |

Hard to believe looking at her now that she started life as SOU 3118 in December 1967, a high nose, long hood forward set up SD45. After Southern was done it passed to HLCX 3118, CNW 3118, and then SP 8660 on September 21, 1994 at the MK Rail Mountaintop, PA facility, when the unit was rebuilt to Dash-2 specifications and redesignated as a SD40M-2. It was renumbered to UP 2736 on October 19, 2002. The repaint into UP colors came in late 2005. It was retired by UP and sold to RailAmerica in May 2012, and assigned to the Missouri & Northern Arkansas as MNA 2736. The last time I saw this unit was on March 11, 2007 as a UP unit, trailing behind the MKT Heritage Locomotive, UP 1988 of all things, on a ZYCHOB on the UP Jonesboro Sub. in Southeast Missouri. |

Coming through KC Union Station is UP Train RSXBS 13 with the CNW 8646 on the point. This was once a fairly common sight in the 1990s when real CNW trains ran past here, and you can't ask for a more CNW-looking load: pink ballast from Sioux City, IA. Also making a cameo appearance in the Amtrak station on Track 30 are Patrick Henry's Creative Charters PVs.
