SOO 2016 - EMD GP40 |
Description: |
Bandit! Before tonight I've only ever seen these in the Chicago area, and I've never been able to shoot one. It's taken 4 years since the CP took the ICE/DME back over but a Milwaukee Road "rotten pumpkin" is finally back home in Joint Agency Yard, which is operated by KCS and CP, once run by the KCS and MILW. Part of this facility is known as KCS Knoche Yard. SOO 2016 was built in 10-1966 with a builder number of 32298 as MILW 178, and later renumbered MILW 2016, and then patched to SOO 2016 after the 1986 Merger. These might be weathered beyond belief but I still think they're downright nifty. That niftyness is only magnified by the fact that she's still wearing her Milwaukee Road Hiawatha Orange under a flaky black SOO-Applied shell, sitting in a yard that was undoubtedby occupied by this very unit when brand new. Now, hopefully she sticks around so I can shoot her in daylight. |

A CP local runs light power down to Kansas City with a MILW Bandit on the point. Even though these are beat up, it's cool to see a unit wearing MILW paint on Ex-MILW track in 2012. This was the only move I saw up here today on the CP, since there was a moderate derailment north of here the night before which I hadn't heard about. |
