Southbound UP Intermodal Train
Title:  Southbound UP Intermodal Train
Description:  UP Train ZYCMQB 20 is blasting south at Bernie with the 2nd UP 7511 leading. The 1st UP 7511, builder's number 50945 was built in July 1998 and suffered fire damage on June 7, 1999. The cause of the fire was determined to be warranty related. Thus, the unit was retired on June 16, 1999 and shipped to GE at Erie, Pa., on June, 17 1999. The damage was repaired and the unit was repainted to GE's Red and Gray Scheme and was renumbered to GECX 6002 in April 2000. This is the 2nd 7511, bulider's number 52484 that was built to replace it in December 2000 and was delivered on January 7, 2001 with a builder's number of 52484.

Description:  Even back when I didn't have to drive 8 hours to see a CNW, it was still nice to see them roll through occasionally. This was one of the last 10 operating CNW C44-9W's on the UP System and one of the last 14 at the time. Almost everything on this one was original, even the numberboards! Now, on 9-17-06, there are just 2 active CNW's, and both Dash-9's, CNW 8646 and 8701.

Description:  Here we see UP Train AASEW 23 pulling out of Bernie Siding after meeting a northbound intermodal, and the conductor checking out an "Excessive Movement" defect that an employee detected during a roll-by while leaving the crew change. It turned out to be a false alarm and the conductor was trying to hitch a ride to the front of his train. I heard the scanner signal very strong when he finished the northbound's roll-by and then we passed him on the highway and I saw his radio so we went back and got him and took him to the front of his train. He was pretty grateful since it was about a mile walk, and it was already getting hot this morning. Providing most of the smoke was the last unit in the consist, a leased GP38-2.
