Description: |
The special passes over Grand Avenue in Haysville as it picks up a little speed. The engine wasn't fazed a bit by 14 cars and level track. |

Southbound UP 844 and the Oklahoma Centennial Sooner Rocket |
Description: |
The Oklahoma Centennial Sooner Rocket operating as UP Train SWTEN 09 crests a small grade on the way from Wichita, KS to Enid, OK with a 14 car passenger consist in tow at about 30 mph. I don't think I could have asked for a better morning for big steam. This was the longest UP Passenger Train I'd ever seen, with 3 domes! Can't beat that! |

UPP 814-Auxiliary Water Tender "Joe Jordan" |
Description: |
UP has rebuilt their water tenders from their "Big Blow" look since the last time I saw one. They are now back down to the bare steam tenders they started with, and blend into the train much better. Compare this with a view of UPP 809 from last year: http://uptrain.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=386354 . 809 is currently getting the same treatment. |

Onlookers and 844 |
Description: |
844 sits surrounded by people at Wellington. The gentleman at the far left in the light blue shirt and shorts with a cap was a Korean War Veteran that I had the pleasure to meet. He had ridden a troop train at the start of his trip to Korea. My grandpa was involved in the conflict, and also rode a troop train, but got lucky and ended up in Germany, then England building runways for bombers. |

One Last Look |
Description: |
We went down south of Wellington after the train departed for one last roll-by at Perth. This is where I spoke with the ex-ATSF engineman. He and his wife had forgotten about the train and heard it leave town, but they got here about 5 minutes before it rounded the curve. |

Eastbound UP 844 and The Valley Eagle Heritage Tour Train |
Description: |
UP 844 passes a cattle pond in the middle of nowhere with UP Train SMVKC 04, The Valley Eagle segment from Marysville, KS to Kansas City, MO. I can't get over how much better those water tenders look since they took all the extra insulation, baffling, and hardware off of them a couple years ago. |
