Description:  KCT goes about switching out the High Iron Travel “Southwest Explorer” rare mileage special that has just arrived KC Union Station from Pratt, KS via the UP. Cars will be wyed to be facing the right direction for their departures on the Amtrak Southwest Chief Trains 3 and 4 over the next couple days. The special operated as Amtrak Train #964 today.

Description:  Headed down the hill at Hamblen Road on the UP Sedalia Sub. is the Amtrak 40th Anniversary Phase III Heritage Locomotive on the point of the Missouri River Runner. The unit spent the past week leading a High Iron Travel rare mileage special, the “Southwest Explorer”, which ran from St. Louis to Kansas City via New Mexico.
