The heritage units are back in Missouri on UP Train IHOYC 25! The Katy hasn't been in SEMO since August 27, 2005 (it's first revenue run south, and the only time it was here until now), and the first time the Mo-Pac has been here since October 4, 2005. They have been assigned out of Kansas and Texas since them, they are now back on this run for a while. The Katy tripped a ground relay south of Little Rock, AR. They had to hold the train for 4 hours to find a unit to go on the front to power the train on north, they chose a nasty SD70M. Joe Falvey, David Silverberg-Daily American Republic (and Mo-Ark Regional Railroad Museum Volunteer, He wants to put the units in the newspaper!), and I were here by the Black River Bridge for photos when the train eased into town at a red signal and stopped. We were glad to see they were freshly washed and scrubbed! The engineer stepped out and told us to "Get all you want!". We did that! I told him to "Switch the power around!" while doing a hand motion, he laughed and said, "If I had time I would!" When the signal turned yellow he asked, "Got all ya want?" We replied yes, and they eased on out of town! |

The UP 1988 MKT "Katy" Heritage Unit was set out here yesterday at 13:36C by UP Train IHOYC 08. The Reason on the Crew Message Was: "LEAD MOTOR SPEED SENSOR DISABLED FOR LOCKED WHEEL DETECTION." The locomotive was idling and had 4,370 gallons of fuel, meaning it had burned 130 gallons of it's 4,500 gallon capacity since it left North Little Rock, AR. A very polite officer from the Hoxie Police Department came by and we spoke to him for about an hour after explaining what we were doing. |

With permission, I climbed up the steps and got a couple photos of the unit's cab, this being the engineer's controls while it was sitting in the dark just south of the BNSF Crossing. The reason for being set out on the crew message screen was: "LEAD MOTOR SPEED SENSOR DISABLED FOR LOCKED WHEEL DETECTION." The unit was idling and the cab was very warm. |

After switching out the lead unit, UP Train LMR38 20 heads down the KCT at the Gooseneck. The lead unit is a substitute for UP 2079, which quit running before the train left UP Neff Yard. The 3rd unit, is UP 1988, and is headed for RELCO in Albia, IA. It will be interchanged to the CP at Liberty which forwarded it to Albia. It is headed up there for a partial repaint to repair damage suffered by the paint on the engine hood after a fire in June. |

Coming by Sagebrush Road near Everest, KS is The 2011 Super Bowl Special UP Train SCBFW 30 with the E-Units, UP 1988, and UP 2010 heading up 21 cars. I nearly broke my ankle on the way out of this field. I was about 2 steps from the truck when I went down like I was shot, rolled around in the ditch, cursed...a lot, stood up, got in the truck, punched the gas. I think I sprained it somewhat but the swelling went down Sunday night when I iced it. |

The 2011 Super Bowl Special UP Train SCBFW 30 with the E-Units, UP 1988, and UP 2010 heading up 21 cars took the siding at Shannon, KS for an empty coal train that held the main. They came to a brief stop and then puttered on down to Atchison. Notice these f***ing clouds that showed up in literally the last 5 minutes--it's flurrying now. |
