Southbound UP 844 - UP 1982 and The Little Rock Express Train |
| Description: |
UP 844 and UP 1982 are leaving Poplar Bluff after its first visit since 1996 with The Little Rock Express UP Train SCGBK 06. This was during the UP Great Excursion Adventure. The first time I rode a locomotive was here in 1994, the first steam engine I rode on was in almost the same spot on this engine in 1996. That day was also the last time a steam locomotive rolled through PB. A lot of people voted for this thing to visit Poplar Bluff, and I'm proud to call it my hometown, at least today. A downtown district that's getting back on track, both depots survive, one restored, the other on its way, and today we boasted arguably the most famous locomotive in the country. Life is good. |

I finally pulled off the true over over under shot at Santa Fe Jct./BNSF Crossing. Every train in the shot was moving, albeit the move on the bottom, UP Train MLIKS 11, was slow rolling up to a red signal at Santa Fe Jct. However, BNSF Train S LPCLBA1 12A on the KCT Argentine Connection Flyover was flying along at around 30 MPH, and UP Train MDMKS 13 on the KCT High Line was moving along at 20 MPH or so. This photo appeared in the February 2012 issue of Railroads Illustrated Magazine and the December 2012 issue of Trains Magazine. |

Southbound BNSF Empty Coal Train |
| Description: |
A BNSF empty coal train crosses the Hannibal Bridge into Kansas City from BNSF Murray Yard in North Kansas City, MO. This train was being detoured via the Ex-ATSF to Colorado before returning north to the Wyoming mines. Usually this train would go north out of here via the BNSF St. Joseph Sub., and Ex-BN lines across Nebraska. The St. Joe Sub. is currently flooded out in several spots by the Missouri River. This is the 2nd Hannibal Bridge. The 1st Hannibal Bridge was named for the railroad the built it in 1867, the Hannibal & St. Joseph Railroad. The original structure was 200 feet further downstream from this and was a swing span. It was heavily damaged during a 1886 tornado, collapsing the center span, but was later modified and rebuilt. The current bridge was built in 1917 by the CB&Q as a replacement, and was originally a swing span with a road deck above the tracks, which was removed in 1956 when the Broadway Bridge was constructed. This bridge also survived the Flood of 1951 when it was struck by several barges torn loose from their mooring, and actually swung the span open. It came under BN ownernship with the merger in 1970, and passed to the BNSF in 1995. |

In a rare occurrence, the MP Heritage Locomotive ended up on a UP coal train bound for the Entergy Power Plant at Independence, AR on the Missouri & Northern Arkansas, and the empty train is seen headed back towards the Powder River Basin as UP Train CNWRO 26. The 1982 was added last weekend in Parsons, KS when the train was headed south loaded after the UP 6713 sprung a bad fuel leak and was bad ordered. The Centennial UP 6936 is in charge of UP Train SCBPS 04, a 10 Car Wimmer Engineering Special headed down the ex-Katy Parson Sub. en route from Council Bluffs, IA-Parsons, KS. This is the first leg of an inspection trip that will travel to nearly every corner of the system this month. At 18:26 it rolls on down the MKT towards today's destination. Rocketing out of Idalia after a crew change at North Dexter is CNW 8701, one of the Last 2 CNW's on the point of UP Train QNLCH 10, which left North Little Rock, AR the night before at 23:23. The 8701 had been in UP's Jenks Shops at North Little Rock, AR since 3-31-06 and spent over 2 months there for maintenance. At the time it was feared that this engine was being repainted or renumbered, when in actuality the engine was not modified from its CNW appearance, other than the shop forces TOUCHED UP the green along the hood and the yellow Scotchlite. I figured I'd post a couple of the other remaining CNW unit, since its sister, 8646 has been hanging around my general area for a while now. |
